DND Scraps Lawn Pesticides

Department of National Defense (DND) officials visited Halifax in September to learn  how to keep DND property green without using cosmetic pesticides.

The department held a symposium on Sustainable Landscape Practices and
Pesticide Use Reduction to help in implementing a new DND policy which calls for the elimination of pesticides for cosmetic lawn care purposes on all lands owned or leased by DND  by March 2003. The only exception is for golf courses and sports fields, which are required to reduce pesticide use.
