PEI Reduces Scent Use
UPdate Fall 2002

On September 1, 2001, PEI became the first provincial government to adopt a "scent reduced" policy for all government offices. In addition to stating that "employees shall not wear scented personal products at work," the policy requires use of fragrance free cleaning products wherever possible, and the use of environmentally friendly and fragrance free products for pest control, odor masking, soaps and other products.

The initiative for the policy came from the PEI Union of Public Sector Employees, which worked with the government to adopt programs to promote employee health. The policy has the support of the PEI Lung Association.
