Pesticide Reduction in the Maritimes UPdate Summer 2002 Shediac may be the first municipality in New Brunswick to adopt restrictions on cosmetic pesticide use. Mayor Camille Belliveau says town council will probably pass a ban which would come into effect in a year. InLunenberg, Michelle LaPorte has begun a campaign to convince her town councillors to do the same. She asks people who want to join her efforts to contact her at 902-634-3335. In Cape Breton Regional Municipality,
the newly formed Citizens Against Toxins in the Environment (CATE) is also
working for a pesticide bylaw. Councillors have reopened the issue, and
are listening to submissions. The contact person for CATE is Joan O'Connor
at 902-562-5660.
